The New Town

The New Town is a central area of Edinburgh. It is considered to be a masterpiece of city planning and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Although still referred to as The New Town, it was built between 1760 and 1850, and retains much of the original neo-classical period architecture.

The most famous street in the New Town is Princes Street. The shops are located on one side of the road, and from all angles you get a stunning view of the Edinburgh Castle. Although for the best view of the castle, head over to Castle Street where you can get one of the best daytime views. On the opposite side of the street is Princes Street Gardens. During the summer and the winter (Christmas time), there are markets, stalls, and even park rides to keep families of all ages entertained.

Other interesting streets in the New Town are George Street with its fancy shops and restaurants and Rose Street which is a bit of  Old Town in New Town, home to many pubs and restaurants.

If you are on George Street, a beautiful place to have drinks or dinner is The Dome. If you are on Rose Street from April to September, you will see that whenever the weather is nice most restaurants and pubs put their tables outside creating a great atmosphere for a pleasant dinner and/or drinks out.

Places of interest in New Town include The Scott Monument, National Galleries of Scotland, Balmoral Hotel building and the Georgian House.

What our guests say about it:

“After some initial problems with contact, the takeover was friendly, pleasant and easy. The flat was well appointed and very warm. We had a great time in Edinburgh and the high quality of the accommodation added to the pleasure of our stay. If ever we are back in Edinburgh this appartment woud be our first choice for accommodation! “
