Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Edinburgh

This week, the Queen will be visiting Scotland accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.
Every summer they spend a week in Scotland, it’s called the Holyrood week. This year the visit will be all that more special because of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
It will be a busy week for them. On Monday, July 2nd, the Queen will attend the Ceremony of the Keys in Edinburgh, when she will be handed the keys of the city and welcomed to Scotland by the Lord Provost. The annual Ceremony of the Keys takes place at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, it’s an ancient tradition that finishes with the Queen returning the keys to the elected officials entrusting their safekeeping to them.

Celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the remarkable reign of Queen Elizabeth II, who was proclaimed queen when she was only 25 years old. What most people don’t know is that her public service started before that when she served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the women’s branch of the British Army during the Second World War.
The first major event is The Diamond Jubilee Pageant which will take place in the private grounds of Windsor Castle on the evenings of 10th, 11th and 13th May 2012.

A Royal Wedding in Edinburgh!

This is the year of the royal weddings! After Prince William and Kate Middleton, now Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, tied the knot in April, it’s time for Zara Phillips, the Queen’s eldest grand-daughter, to exchange rings with rugby star Mike Tindall.
The wedding ceremony will be held next July 30th at Canongate Kirk, in the Old Town of Edinburgh followed by a reception at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
