Posted July 2, 2012
This week, the Queen will be visiting Scotland accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.
Every summer they spend a week in Scotland, it’s called the Holyrood week. This year the visit will be all that more special because of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
It will be a busy week for them. On Monday, July 2nd, the Queen will attend the Ceremony of the Keys in Edinburgh, when she will be handed the keys of the city and welcomed to Scotland by the Lord Provost. The annual Ceremony of the Keys takes place at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, it’s an ancient tradition that finishes with the Queen returning the keys to the elected officials entrusting their safekeeping to them.
