Scottish history is full of battles, knights and castles. Violent disputes, power and resistance, have been common themes. Pride and nationalist sentiment have always been in the hearts of the Scottish people.
Scotland’s history is by no means an ordinary one.
Historic Scotland, an agency of the Scottish Government, is responsible for preserving and promoting Scotland’s historic environment. They have been very successful in sparking public interest in history.
They brought the castles and palaces to life by exploring the subject with interactive activities and events for the whole family.

Visit the Pentland Hills when you come to Edinburgh

The Pentland Hills Regional Park, located in the south-west of Edinburgh, is a great place to visit and explore. It’s an impressive landscape with a range of hills that was shaped over time by glaciers and water. The park covers an area of 90km2. Its highest peak, Scald Law, is 579m high.
The park is a protected area home to farms and forestry developments; it’s also open to the public for recreational activities such as hiking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and golfing.
There you will find easy walking and cycling routes suitable for families as well as challenging hiking routes and steep and rough cycle paths.
