Robert Burns Night in Edinburgh 2012
Robert Burns (1759 –1796) is the most beloved Scottish poet of all time. He was voted by the Scottish public as being the Greatest Scot in a survey carried out by the STV Scottish Television Channel. A pioneer of the Romantic movement, he became a great source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism. His poems and songs are bared in the heart of every Scot. One of his songs: Scots Wha Hae is a patriotic song of Scotland which served for a long time as an unofficial national anthem of the country. Burns is not only famous in Scotland; he is also celebrated abroad. One of his songs “Auld Lang Syne” is traditionally sung at the conclusion of New Year gatherings in Scotland and around the world, especially in English-speaking countries. Other poems and songs of Burns that remain well-known across the world today include A Red, Red Rose; A Man’s A Man for A’ That; To a Louse; To a Mouse; The Battle of Sherramuir; Tam o’ Shanter, and Ae Fond Kiss.
