Another great festival being held in August in Edinburgh is the International Book Festival. It takes place on Charlotte Square from August 11th to 27th.
It’s the largest book festival in the world! Acclaimed writers such as Ian McEwan, James Kelman, Will Self, Pankaj Mishra, Pat Barker, Gavin Esler and Louise Welsh will launch their new books here. The Festival will gather 800 authors from 44 different countries. Here you will find books that you wouldn’t find in a regular bookshop!

After exploring the Royal Mile, it’s time to head to New Town. This area was built between 1765 and 1850 for the wealthy people who were not quite happy to share the streets with the less fortunate in Old Town.
The neo-classical and Georgian style architecture is beautiful and impressive. In 1995 it was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
