November 5th: Bonfire Night in Edinburgh!

Guy Fawkes Day (or Night), also called Bonfire Night, is a uniquely British festival. It originates from the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a failed conspiracy by a group of English Catholics to kill the protestant king James I of England (the VI of Scotland) and replace him with a Catholic head of state. James’s Council allowed the public to celebrate the king’s survival with bonfires.
It’s said that the bonfire celebrations have also connections to the pagan Celtic harvest festival of Samhain which marks the start of the “dark days”.

The Scottish International Storytelling Festival is one of the most important events of its kind. It takes place in Edinburgh and this year it will be held from October 21st to the 30th.

Festival Fireworks Concert next Sunday Sep 4th!

Next Sunday, September 4th, a spectacular fireworks concert will mark the end of this year’s famous Edinburgh International Festival. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra will be playing live at the Ross Theatre in Princes Street Gardens. At the same time a choreographed display of fireworks will be launched from Edinburgh Castle. This year’s fireworks concert was inspired by Asia, Arabia and the East. It will take 45 minutes but the memories will last for years.
